    BioEssays 9/2020.David A. Lovejoy & David W. Hogg - 2020 - Bioessays 42 (9):2070091.
Graphical AbstractIn neurons, teneurins and latrophilins form a juxtacrine unit that originated in the earliest metazoans. The ‘teneurin C-terminal associated peptide’ (TCAP) regulates mitochondrial function to coordinate energy usage in surrounding cells. TCAP inhibits stress-related actions of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) in the central nervous system and may underlie the etiology of some affective disorders. More details can be found in article number 2000039 by David A. Lovejoy and David W. Hogg. Cover image by Mia Husic.

Information Processing in Affective Disorders: Did an Ancient Peptide Regulating Intercellular Metabolism Become Co‐Opted for Noxious Stress Sensing?David A. Lovejoy & David W. Hogg - 2020 - Bioessays 42 (9):2000039.
Affective disorders arise in stressful situations from aberrant sensory information integration that affects energetic nutrient (i.e., glucose) utilization to the cognitive centers of the brain. Because energy flow is mediated by molecular signals and receptors that evolved before the first complex brains, the phylogenetically oldest signaling systems are essential in the etiology of affective disorders. The corticotropin‐releasing factor (CRF) peptide subfamily is a phylogenetically old metazoan peptide family and is pivotal for regulating organismal energy response associated with stress. Highly conserved, (...)

    On Aristotle Metaphysics 5.W. E. Alexander & Dooley - 1993 - Bloomsbury Academic.
"Aristotle was a systematic writer who often cross-referred to the definitions of terms given elsewhere in his work. Book 5 of the Metaphysics is important because it consists of definitions of the main uses of key terms in Aristotle's philosophy, and it is extremely valuable to have a commentary on this important text by Alexander of Aphrodisias, the leading commentator of his school. Alexander provides a detailed commentary on all of the thirty terms analysed in Book 5, weighing alternative interpretations (...)

    Intuitionistic uniformity principles for propositions and some applications.W. Friedrich & H. Luckhardt - 1980 - Studia Logica 39 (4):361 - 369.
This note deals with the prepositional uniformity principlep-UP: p x N A (p, x) x N p A (p, x) ( species of all propositions) in intuitionistic mathematics.p-UP is implied by WC and KS. But there are interestingp-UP-cases which require weak KS resp. WC only. UP for number species follows fromp-UP by extended bar-induction (ranging over propositions) and suitable weak continuity. As corollaries we have the disjunction property and the existential definability w.r.t. concrete objects. Other consequences are: there is no (...)

In considering the rise of American Humanism, we will explore these developments, as expressed in the Free Religious Association (FRA) and the early Chicago School of Philosophy. Brief consideration will be given to the developments in the Unitarian Church in America which led to the formation of the FRA in 1867. The focus on the FRA will center on four key founders, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Octavius Brooks Frothingham, Francis Ellingwood Abbot and William James Potter. Following the World’s Congress of Religions (...)
